Abstract

Now-a-days there is increase in usage of electricity for that we have to save the electrical
energy in efficient manner and we have to find the possible ways to conserve the energy.
This concept is very simple & sustainable that controls the intensity of light depending upon
the darkness in the atmosphere & automatically adjusts the brightness of the light. This
complete system doesn’t based on time slot.
At First Street lights are controlled manually which was taken more time and annoying
process to switch on the street light during evening& bad weather condition. And it was quite
impossible to turn on all the street lights at a time & vice-versa. And a significant wastage of
energy occurred during morning because it couldn’t be turned off together at once.
In existing system there is a time slot allotted for turning the light OFF during morning. We
used stack of LEDs instead of HID lamps due to dimming feature. This existing system does
not conserve energy as it is based on time slot .Also during monsoon the environment
remains dark compared to regular days. So this couldn’t work in all conditions.
To overcome these drawbacks we came with this concept that automatically adjust the
brightness of Street light. The proposed system uses Arduino, MOSFET, and LDR. When
the power is supplied to the LDR, it senses brightness of the surrounding environment &
gives the output to Arduino, and then Arduino PWM pin gives out signal which makes the
MOSFET work. And the MOSFET controls the amount of voltage to be sent to the Street
Light/LED stacks. The intensity LEDs depends on the voltage provided by Arduino. Due to
absence of light in night, all LEDs are in ON position their intensity reaches its peak. More
the darkness more the intensity of street light automatically and vice-versa.
The proposed system was done and tested in our village which was the best solution
towards energy conservation than manually controlled system & existing controlled system.
This emerges reduced power wastage, cost and increases accuracy. This is automated
control, microcontroller & sensor based system which is more effective, reliable and
sustainable.
