Abstract
Abstract: Ongoing Covid-19 lockdown has thrust a digital new normal upon everyone globally. The digital revolution under industry 4.0 was estimated to take up to 10 years to get accepted, but covid-19 has brought this behavioral change to accept smart digital technologies within 100 days of Covid lockdown worldwide. Everything that was happening normally in the past has to integrate with smart digital interface. Day-To-Day shopping for essentials which had very limited digital tech integration in the form of point of sale (POS) Billing has to drastically adapt hybrid online cum in store smart tech for their future survival. India has millions of mom and pop stores (kirana stores) that need to upgrade with smart tech. Considering their low investments and turn over a cost effective and phased up gradation is needed. Rapid assessment of small size department store has brought out a few low cost entry points for smart tech adoption. Usually, the conventional Barcode-based Shopping system makes the customers experience at the supermarket tough, as the customer needs to wait for a long time in the billing counter which lowers their patience level. AIOT-based – intelligent shopping cart with built-in payment modules could be chosen to avoid long lines at billing desks and provide customers with a trouble less shopping experience. Here, we propose to use NTAG215 NFC readers in the store for tracking and the customers smart phone for ins tore and online purchase app which has barcode reader for scanning the products. The customer gets to know the offers and discounts that are currently active on the product picked. In the next phases smart cart and smart racks can be gradually integrated in phased manner without creating a excessive upfront investments that are suitable for Indian stores.
Purpose: The objective of this paper is to create IOT based - Smart shopping using near field communication tags and readers
Methodology: Rapid assessment of small size department store has brought out a few low cost entry points for smart tech adoption. Usually, the conventional Barcode-based Shopping system makes the customers experience at the supermarket tough, as the customer needs to wait for a long time in the billing counter which lowers their patience level.
Findings: AIOT-based – intelligent shopping cart with built-in payment modules could be chosen to avoid long lines at billing desks and provide customers with a trouble less shopping experience. Here, we propose to use NTAG215 NFC readers in the store for tracking and the customers smart phone for in store and online purchase app which has barcode reader for scanning the products. The customer gets to know the offers and discounts that are currently active on the product picked.
Originality/value: The main idea of this fore mentioned proposed system is to satisfy customers with good quality of products which might not be disgruntled to the customers while doing an online purchase, and reducing their waiting time at the billing counter by introducing the term mobile self billing to them while they can also track their purchase list going above their budget before going to actual billing counter.
