Abstract

Godhadi is a traditional and hand-stitched quilt originally from Maharashtra. It is Made from curtains, old sarees, cotton cloth, used bed sheets and all discarded fabrics of different types without wasting anything. The Godhadi is in form of a collage as a final result . It is a creative combination of different types of fabrics, textures, designs, patterns, colour schemes, folds and shapes. It is a traditional craft type in which all types of fabrics are being reused. 

Thus Godhadi is a type of a thick blanket. It keeps creating memories and pass it on from one generation to the another generation. It is a great aesthetic value with affection we receive from our Grandmother through the medium of these Godhadi quilts. It never ages though users and viewers get older. It is a warm blanket that speaks about memories and makers especially women. 

These Godhadis have been around in Maharashtra for centuries. These lovingly hand stitched Godhadis are turned into soft quilts as warm and precious as a love of Grandmother. Godhadis are preserved from generation as a symbol of maternal love. They talk about the stories about the alive-hands that made them.

Researcher is from Maharashtra and wants to throw light on different aspects of the state. Maharashra state is blessed with history of reach culture, tradition and heritage. The Godhadi Art is one of them. This paper is focusing on the International and National level participation of the product of Maharashtra with different style from others. This is the time of the revival of the Godhadi. Maharashtrian Godhadi is displayed in International market of Fashion design, Interior design, product design, space planning and overall Design Market. Grandmother’s Godhadi with weaving memories goes to global and it really deserves. The paper also study that many of the artisans who took inspiration from this Godhadi art and craft. They have established new trends in Design with innovation
