Abstract

Agriculture is the science and art of cultivating crops. It is an important sector of an Indian Economy. Agriculture is not only work but also a way of life for many people. Farmers are facing many challenges for agriculture like irrigation problems, etc. Crops may be harmed by over-irrigation or a lack of irrigation. To avoid this problem, this chapter proposes a smart irrigation system on an IoT platform. The proposed method captures and sends the data over a wireless network without any human intervention. It makes use of smart wireless sensors to have an excellent management framework. To monitor soil moisture, temperature, and humidity, a smart irrigation system based on the Internet of Things is proposed. The control unit is implemented using the microcontroller on the Node MCU platform. Sensors for soil, temperature and humidity are deployed to determine the exact levels of moisture via the Blynk mobile app. IoT device keeps track of the moisture content of the soil and this information specifies the required amount of water to be used, avoiding overwatering.
